Adventure
• A boat ride away from Dungun, divers
flock to
PulauTenggol
for some adventure
at sites like the Rajawali Reef, Tokong Laut,
Teluk Nakota and Tanjung Gemok for
day and night diving to spot turtles and
other ocean treasures like the giant moray
eel, blue-ringed angelfish, neon slugs,
nudibranchs, sea dragons, fusiliers, batfish,
pufferfish andmoorish idol among others.
• OffMarang,
PulauKapas
is also a good
spot for some diving although visibility
may not be ideal but if you’re lucky, you
might be able to spot awhale shark. Those
intowreck diving can head to the Japanese
landing craft wreck lying upright at a depth
of 25 metres. The non-divers can kayak
around the island for a glimpse of Pulau
Gemia that is off-limits to non-guests of the
Gemia Island Resort.

in
Kemaman serves as a hatchery and conser-
vationcentre toeducate the local community
and monitor turtle landings which have
become scarce thesedays.

so if you’re itching for some beachside
golfing, look no further than this cham-
pionship course against a backdrop of
sparkling waters and sun kissed sands.

• Further afield, sample baked stuffed
crabs, BBQ tiger prawns, sambal squid
and crispy chicken with Thai sauce at

lies a market where tropical fruits and

• In Marang, the
Medan Selera Taman
Esplanade
fronting Kelulut Beach, is an
ideal location for a meal by the lapping
(sometimes, crashing) waves. You will be
spoiled for choice here but be sure to stop
by for grilled seafood, notably,
ikan pari
bakar, ikan tanda 3 rasa, sotong tepung
and, not to mention, tom yam soup. If
you arrive early, there’s still reason to feel
peckish with satar ikan (grilled delicacy
made with fish), various keropok (crack-
ers) and the most refreshing coconut
juice.
Nature
• The 1.2km hike to get to
Chemerong
Waterfall
(about 60km or an hour’s drive
from Dungun) rewards travellers with an
uplifting respite from the scorching heat.
Be sure to pack lunch and plenty of fluids
for the journey!

• The
Marang River Cruise
takes you
through mangrove swamps for sightings
of monitor lizards, eagles, macaques, birds
in a riot of colors and the occasional otter

palm sugar production and thatched
roofing can also be arranged.

• Further inland, about 50km (an hour’s
drive) from Marang, lies the 260 sq km
Kenyir Lake
, reputedly the largest man-
made lake in Southeast Asia as a result
of the damming of the Kenyir River for
hydroelectricity generation. Kayaking
on the still waters of the vast lake is a
