Railway stations have always been themeans to an end, rather than an end itself –you
go through themto get somewhere else. But not for the oldKuala Lumpur andKluang
stations.

destinations in their own right.
Tale of Two Stations

the past, railway lines were instru-
mental in the transport of natural
resources headed for export. Train
stations marked significant transit
points in major towns that have,
in turn, flourished economically.
With the advent of budget air-travel
and more convenient expressways, com-
muting by rail across different states has
somewhat been eclipsed.
Some train stations have been decom-
missioned. And train depots have been
redeveloped. But some are drawing even
more crowds than before – for reasons less
related to transportation – like the Kluang
Railway Station.
Kluang Rail Coffee have been serving
delightful cuppas since its inception in
1938 as a modest canteen attached to the
main railway station. It has since expanded
to cater to a larger crowd, but you would
still have relative difficulty securing a table
on weekends and public holidays.
