“I used to attend a lot of business func-
tions that revolve around entertainment,
but I’ve found myself saying ‘no’ more
often now as I look forward to spending
what little time I have left with my family.
“The children sure grow quickly – it’s
been a year now, and I can tell you that
every week is a different experience,
since they grow both physically and
temperamentally.
Is it tough having twins, I asked.
“Yes, I would not sugar-coat it; the
sleepless nights are really challenging, but
hey, it gets better after a while. It’s been
tough, yet endearing and rewarding all at
the same time.
“I guess life is more settled for me now.
At the end of the day, what’s important is
the time you spend with your loved ones.
Our weekends now are filled with
more programmes; the girls are brought to
swimming classes and the like. Thankfully,
the transition has been smooth so far.”
While he rarely goes out much these
days, the father of two still socialises with
his buddies; the difference being that they
all go out as families and bring their kids
along with them.
“That’s how we keep our bonds to-
gether.”
actually more a beer person, but with the
arrival of my twins in 2013, I have cut
down significantly.”
Ong strives to stay healthy and fit as he
navigates through the often stressful and
demanding roles he plays in the aviation
industry.
“I like physical exercise. It’s a good
stress reliever. I have always loved playing
sports and games. When I was younger, I
was into badminton and table tennis and a
little bit of track and field. I guess I mostly
favour racquet games. As I grew older, it
became more badminton-focussed.”
Despite all his corporate capers, Ong
is quite the homebody nowadays. With
an incredibly busy schedule and frequent
out-of-office work trips, he still manages
to find time for his family.
“My two lovely girls have definitely
changed my life. I enjoy parenthood
immensely.”
