With the success of Art Village Gallery
which continues to supply a variety of
interesting and decorative art works at
affordable prices, I felt that it was time
to set up a gallery that would serve as
a serious platform to promote art aimed
at seasoned and prominent collectors. It
will organise and hosts exhibitions by
both upcoming and established artists.
Thus G13 Gallery was established in 2010
to meet this requirement. I am pleased
that in the last five years, we have been
fortunate to have organised and hosted
some outstanding talents, both local and
regional, whose works are well regarded
by art collectors and the public.
Tell us about your stable of artists repre-
sented. Howdoyoufind them?
As an art collector and a gallery owner,
I make a point to keep abreast with the
latest art developments in and outside of
the country. I seek the artists whose works
I appreciate and would like to work with
them be they upcoming, mid career or the
established ones. Most of the time, I would
come across them online or in the news.
I do take into consideration the recom-
mendations by friends as well as making
the time to visit exhibitions in an out of the country. However, many do approach our
gallery due to our positive reputation. Some of the reputable artists associated with
G13 Gallery areSuzlee Ibrahim, Haslin Ismail, Siund Tan, Calvin Chua, Khairuddin
Zainudin , Dennis Chan, Cheev, Suddin Lappo and Faizal Suhif
What canweexpect to see inG13Gallery in the comingmonths?
I am pleased to announce that in 2015, we are embarking on an aggressive campaign
to promote Contemporary Malaysian Art abroad. We will be participating again
in the upcoming Art Stage Singapore this January, Art Jakarta in August, and
Malaysia-International Art Expo in September as well as Art Taipei in November. These
international events are significant platforms which offer us great opportunity to expose
the numerous talents our country has to offer as well as sealing the reputation of G13
Gallery as an emerging but serious promoter of contemporary Malaysian artists.
The exhibitions at our galleries will continue as usual, featuring new talents,
especially from our Art Residency Program and established artists from Malaysia and
from around the region. We aim to set a few more milestones than last year and look
forward to the continuous support of our patrons and art lovers.
