With so many parties and gatherings to attend this festive season, we completely
understand ifyoucan’thelpbutsurrender tothebuffet table.Oncewegobacktothedaily

tips to enjoy the food festivitieswithout feeling terribly guilty this season.
Health
Staying in Shape
This Festive Season
Smaller portioning
A pretty nifty trick that takes some getting used to, aim to eat everything, but at tiny
little morsels. Think of it as sampling everything so you get a better idea of what foods
are worth your calories and what aren’t. Additionawlly, use a smaller plate because
you tend to fill up the plate no matter how big or small it is. If you need to really watch
the calories, pile on more vegetables and proteins instead of the carbohydrate-laden
and fried/greasy foods.
You don’t have to say no to desserts
Eat them! Enjoy them! That’s partly why you’re even celebrating! But of course,
watch the portions. There’s just too much
desserts and too little GI tract space.
No seconds
We know, we know. It’s not easy to resist
temptation. Keep yourself hydrated and
full for interim periods with fruit juices or
plainwater so by the time you’re ready for
your second house visit, you have space
for other goodies!
Watch the drinks
We’re talking about the a-a-a-alcohol and
sweetened drinks. If you really have to,
keep your alcohol intake to two servings
and opt for unsweetened ice tea, coffee
and water for the rest of the time.
Stay focused
Focus more on the fact that you are there
to celebrate the occasion with your close
friends and family members. Socialise
more and don’t stay for too long at the
dinner table.
Learn to say NO
... and do it in a polite manner. Compli-
ment the chef’s efforts in preparing the
food and give good excuses like ‘you have
another dinner/gathering to attend’ or
simply tell them that you are full. Joke
about it. They would understand.
Alternative workout
It may be difficult logistically to hit the
gym when you are in your hometown
miles away from your residence, so work
out the normal way – help around the
house, do gardening, get your morning
jog or brisk walk or do light exercises.
Keeping active is always good.
