Satay celup
is
not like your usual barbecued cube of
honey-sweetened meat, this dish consists
of an assortment of raw or semi-cooked
meat which are left to simmer in boiling
water and then drenched with a variety
of sauces. You’ve got your sweet sauce,
spicy sauce, peanut sauce, salty sauce – a
cornucopia of sauces that’ll have you
thoroughly amused.
As night fell and my meal was greeted
by the sparkling of tiny stars on the
streets of Malacca I felt a deep sense of
satisfaction. Satisfied that I ate my way
through this historical city and satisfied
that my pants have not yet torn apart at
the seams.
PS Bring extra pants on your trip, just
in case!

chose to have mine lavished with a scoop
of vanilla ice cream. It doesn’t get better
than scooping up mouthfuls of sinfully

After hours of continuous eating, my
tummy needed a little break. I walked
through the streets of Jonker, took pic-
tures by the Malacca river, listened to
music at the town square and took a
little detour to Hang Li Poh’s well. The
excitement got my blood pumping and
tummy rumbling. I was ready once again
… ready to eat through Malacca.
The sun was slowly fading, and the
pace of the town was starting to slow
down. It was tea time, a uniquely Ma-
laysian practise that’s yet another reason
for us locals to relax, gossip and eat. I
ventured into Jalan Bunga Raya in search
of the famous
Fish Ball Lobak
. Crispy
goodness consisting of fried plump fish
balls, golden fish crackers, fried bean
curd and yam topped with a sweet-spicy
chilli paste. At first bite, I was hooked
(Warning: Dish is highly addictive!).
Having spent hours relying on Ma-
laysian weather for a slight breeze, I
waltzed into Plaza Mahkota for some air
conditioning. Within minutes of window
shopping, I stumbled across yet another
line. My curious and hungry nature led
me to Nadeje Patisserie, where I dis-
covered milli
crepes
of all shapes, sizes
and flavours. Oreo, green tea, vanilla,
yam – my taste buds were tingling with
excitement.
After a slice or three, I took a leisurely
stroll around the mall readying myself for
the night’s feast. I hopped into a cab and
sped to Capitol Satay Celup located on
Lorong Bukit Cina. The pioneer of
