Greatest Hits: Decade #1 -
Carrie Underwood
The two-disc set contains hits fromall four
Carrie Underwood’s albums with two new
songs titled
Little Toy Gun
and
Something
in
the Water
. The album is released in
celebration of 10 years since Underwood’s
‘American Idol’ triumph back in 2005.
After a worldwide success, it is a good
recap on the career of this talented country
star with hits like
Jesus
, Take The Wheel,
Before He
Cheats
and
Cowboy
Casanova
all successfully breaking into the Top
40 charts despite the missing EDM and
catchy rap hook formula. Cheers to Carrie
Underwood!
Black Mesiah - D’Angelo and
The Vanguard
Black Messiah took about a decade
to make with D’Angelo piecing
together the right kind of soul sound
with the strong message that he
wanted to get across. The aftereffect
of the Ferguson shooting saga in
the US had led the singer to give
this album an early release late last
year. With combined elements of
funk, rock, jazz, and gospel, the
album is the type that you listen to
in sequence as every track tells its
own stories. Mostly very deep and
political, skip this if you are a fan
of Ariana Grande of Iggy Azealea.

Albums of the Month
All the new releases you need to get your hands on this
month
Time - Mikky Ekko
‘Time’ is the title of Mikky Ekko’s first
full-length album after
Strange Fruit
, his
debut EP in 2009. Known to the world
for his duet single,
Stay
with Rihanna
back in 2013, expect a little less of the
same melancholic ballads with
Time
. The
closest it gets to
Stay
is in the piano-driven
track titled
Comatose
while rest of the
album lies comfortably within the same
territory as One Republic and Ed Sheeran.
The album opener
Watch Me
Rise
is a
convincing track to begin the journey
with (perhaps) your new favourite singer/
songwriter.
Mark Ronson - Uptown Special
After a four-year hiatus, UK’s DJ turned
producer extraordinaire returns with his
fourth album
Uptown Special
. The album
which he claimed specially “dedicated to
the late Amy Winehouse” features the
vocal talents of Kevin Parker, Bruno Mars
and Mystikal as well as the legendary
Stevie Wonder on the harmonica. The
stand-out track has got to be the number
one single
Uptown
Funk
which makes
retro-inspired music cool again. This is
the rare kind of record that both your dad
and little sister will enjoy when you play
it inside of your car.
Reality Show - Jazmine Sullivan
Jazmine Sullivan may not be a household
name here in this side of the universe but
this latest effort from the R&B singer did
make it to the top of the chart in the US.
This is a surprise comeback from Miss
Sullivan after her ‘retirement’ back in
2011. The album features her signature
contemporary R&B with a slight taste of
retro thrown into the mix. Check out the
second single
Forever
Don’t
Last
which
soulfully depicts Sullivan’s emotion in the
painful ending of her relationship.
