planned trip to
Phuket will always
have fun elements at-
tached to it. The beach
is great where one can
sunbathe and watch
the sunset. But when
the darkness of the night begins to creep
in, the blinding hot sun is replaced with
neon signs and spotlights. The young and
restless come out to play at night. But, is
that all there is to Phuket? Can Phuket be
enjoyed sober without the help of cheap
liquor and alluring Thai girls?
The answer is yes as Phuket is somuch
more than a place for partying till dawn
and nursing hangovers. There are plenty
of other things to see and do in Thailand’s
biggest island.
Shopping
Shopping malls like Jungceylon at Patong
Phuket is always worth a visit. It is the
place where one can buy proper clothing,
perhaps for a last minute dinner plan
get
away
Phuket in a Different Light
at one of the nice restaurants or hit the
Boots Pharmacy to stock up on toiletries
and bring them home simply because
these items are cheaper in Thailand.
As for the local delicacies, there are
also plenty of other places to visit like
Pornthip Sea Store where stirred-dry
fruits, cashew nuts, Southern Thai style
fish kidney curry and many other exotic
local food products are readily available
for purchase. The food souvenir store
also sells other craft items like homemade
candles, embroidered bags, fridge mag-
nets and jewellery. The T-shirt printing
factory – Madunan Shirt and Souvenir
Shop – is also worth checking out for its
endless array of t-shirts, many of which
depict very tongue-in-cheek references to
the island and its visitors.
Beach
Despite its reputation for being frenetic,
Patong Beach does not disappoint. If
the entire trip is referred to as a budget
travel, Patong Beach is the safest bet
for everything is just within walking
distance and the accommodation does
not cost an arm and a leg. The sunset
is breathtaking and it is one of those
moments throughout the trip that one
should enjoy in silence. There are vendors
selling drinks and snacks at the beach.
Parasailing is available at the beach for
about 1,500 baht.
