golf course. Aside from this promo, we
used to have Teen Golf Programmes that
were introduced in 1999. The primary
objective was to create awareness of the
game among the juniors. The likes of Ainil
Johani Abu Bakar (Malaysian Lady Pro),
Amir Nazrin (MGA Players) and many
more are products of the programme.
What is in store for KGSS this year? Will
there be major events or changes taking
place?
KGSS will once again become the venue
for the Asian Tour Worldwide Holdings
Selangor Masters which is scheduled to
be held in September.
HowdoesPKNSas aparent companyhelp
promoteKGSS?Has there been anymajor
changes takingplace?
Since KGSS has been managed by SACC
Convec Sdn Bhd in June 2014, PKNS has
emphasised on providing only the best
quality golf course with better clubhouse
facilities to be enjoyed by the golfing
public. We have gradually improved the
course by upgrading all the 48 bunkers,
restoring the overall drainage, adding
up some landscapes to the course and
many more. We are now better equipped
with a full fleet of buggies and full range
machineries. At the same time, we are in
the planning stage to upgrade most of the
clubhouse facilities such as the golfer’s
terrace, changing rooms, banquet hall,
proshop and others.
Being the decisionmaker and teamplayer
of this organisation, how do you envision
KGSS in thenear future?
With the continuous support from the
golfing public, the management team and
all the staff as well as with the upgrading
programmes taking place, we believe KGSS
has all the qualities to be the number one
Public Golf course in the country.
Howmany rounds are played at KGSS per
month?
We are one of the busiest 18-hole golf
courses in the country with a current
record of 5,000 rounds a month.
Could you explain about the Selangor
Masters which was first hosted by the
club in2007?
The Selangor Masters was initiated by the
State Government of Selangor in 2007with
themain objective to promote professional
golf in the country and also to contribute
towards the Yayasan Raja Muda of Se-
langor. In 2007, the tournament kicked
off with cash price of RM 300,000 and it
was won by Antonio Lascuna from the
Philippines. As for 2008, the tournament
was fully sanctioned by the Asian Tour
offering a cash price of US$300,000. Since
then it has ben calledWorldwide Holdings
SelangorMasters. The first champion since
its insertion into the Asian Tour in 2008
was our young local golfer Ben Leong.
Aside fromgolf tournament, what type of
eventsnormallytakeplacehereandwhat is

We also cater for social events like an-
nual dinners as well as weddings and
seminars. The capacity for each event is
from minimum of 40 up to 500 people.
Since the launch in 1998,what aresomeof
themilestones achievedbyKGSS?
KGSS was once regarded as the second
most difficult course and has the second
best green in the country. As a public golf
course, it is quite an achievement to be
chosen to host international events such
as the Worldwide Selangor Masters and
The World Cup Qualifying (Asia Pacific)
in 2007, 2008 and 2011. Apart from the
international events, we have hosted
the Malaysian Amateur Closed and the
Selangor Amateur Open in 2000.
Could you share with us about KGSS’s
initiative in making golf more accessible
to the masses with the ‘Everybody Can
Golf’ promo?
In whatever we do, our objective is to
remain affordable and accessible to the
public. All the revenue earned would be
channelled back for the improvement
of the course. Our packages are very
competitive with rates as low as RM100
for a round of golf with meal included.
It is very affordable for a top quality
