can never imagine working in a different
field. “Aircraft engineering will always be
on top of the list for me but if I really have
to choose to be in a different segment, I
will possibly be an aeronautical engineer,”
says Azmi.
Airline business is a challenging one,
commercially as well as technically but
a reliable engineering and maintenance
operations will provide airlines with
aircraft that allows passengers to get to
their destinations comfortably, safe and on
time. “In the field of aircraft maintenance,
safety is paramount. Wemight be working
behind the scene but for Firefly, it’s a
commitment of the highest rangking, for
everyone in it,” says Azmi ending the
interview with a smile.
it began in school when he started with a
solid foundation in mathematics, physics
and English language. On top of that,
aptitude and psychometric skills comes in
handywith soft skills like problem-solving
and decision-making as the job demands
whoever involved to be always on their
toes in facing any possible circumstances.
A typical day at work for someone
who is in the field of aircraft engineering
like Azmi begins by reviewing of aircraft
technical status before proceeding with
a morning discussion with two of the
airline’s key executives. When there is no
operational, departmental and external
meetings to attend, Azmi could be seen
walking around operation areas and ramp
for monitoring purposes.
“I monitor aircraft in operations daily
from 6.50am until the last flight which
is just before midnight. If there is any
technical issue with the aircraft, I will
be assisting the operations team to get
everything back in order.”
According to Azmi, the best part about
his job is how each day is never the same.
Every day comes with new challenges as
all the varying factors of man, machine

and the environment have to be taken into
consideration in order to achieve a 100%
on time performance. It is always very
unpredictable and challenging.
With his very important and demand-
ing job requirements, Azmi is still able to
achieve a very healthy work-life balance.
“I try my best to stay focused. Of course,
my family has always been my pillar in
supporting me. My wife especially has
always been very understanding of my
job demands which sometimes requires
me to work around the clock. Her support
means everything to me. The rest comes
surprisingly easy as most of the Licensed
Aircraft Engineers themselves are my
children!” Azmi quipped.
“Firefly being a close-knit family kind
of organisation certainly helps me in
achieving a healthy work-life balance,”
he adds.
Being an aircraft engineer does not
mean having to say goodbye to all leisure
activities. When not working, Azmi likes
to catch up on his favourite television
programmes or go for a movie, as it helps
to keep his mind off work. Having said
that, Azmi loves what he is doing that he
