Lipe, an islandwhich
is slowly gaining popu-
larity amongst tourists,
is located in the Adang-
Rawi Archipelago of the
Andaman Sea. Situated
in the Satun province of
southwest Thailand, it is one of the islands
which is quite close to the Malaysian
border. This island was originally settled
by a group of sea gypsies from Malaysia,
known as the Urak Lawoi people.
The most common names are “Koh
Lipe”, “Koh Lipeh”, “Koh Lipey”, and
“Koh Lipe”. Ko Lipe is on the border of
the Tarutao National Marine Park and is
directly south of the larger islands of Koh
Adang and Ko Rawi.
Koh Lipe has three main beaches:
Sunset Beach, Sunrise Beach and Pattaya
Beach. Accommodation from grass huts
to air-conditioned bungalows can be
found on these beaches. It is possible to
walk around the entire island in little over
an hour. There are many
sites for scuba diving and
snorkelling around Koh
Lipe and its neighbour-
ing islands. There are
many dive shops
and resorts on the
island that rent out
snorkeling gear or
arrange boat trips.

About the resort
Akira Lipe Resort has only been in operation
since November 2014. Being a ‘new kid
on the block’, Akira Lipe Resort definitely
stands out amongst the other chalets, resorts
and hotels on Pattaya Beach. This bistro
style hotel has 48 rooms and is warm and
welcoming with a colourful interior.
The quaint lobby area, situated between
the pool and the restaurant, is pretty invit-
ing. Some of the staff members at the
resort are able to speak fluent English and
