clature can be con-
fusing at times. Take
this BMW 320i as an
example – there’s a
320i Sport Line and a
320i Sport Edition. The
obvious differences I can tell you are - the
Sport Edition comes with navigation,
bigger 18” rims and heavier price tag.
The review unit is the Sport Line -
without navigation, with smaller (but
not overly small) 17” rims and a more
tolerable price tag. The unit was made
available to us courtesy of Wearnes
Autohaus.
LOOKS
The current F30 320i’s looks represent an
evolution rather than a revolution. The
familiarity of a BMW is all over the car
but the lines have seen some re-sculpting;
same old look but newer.
Appearing slightly longer than the
superseded model, it looks to have better
proportions with just enough sporty ag-
gression to convey its athletic intentions.
POWER
Replacing the old naturally aspirated
engine with a twin turbocharged
one certainly made a very significant
difference to how the car performs. One
of the common gripes about the old
E90 320i’s 2-liter engine was its lack of
muscle, having only 150hp which puts it
below even some mainstream cars.
This new turbocharged engine how-
ever, has more horsepower and torque
(184hp & 270Nm); 20Nm more torque
than even the superseded E90 325i (which
was more powerful than the equivalent
