you ever gone on
holiday only to come
home exhausted? It
seems like more and
more people are need-
ing a vacation from
their vacation. How
can you avoid that a beach-trip turning
into a stressful, nightmarish scenario?
We’ve got a few tips that can put the
happiness back into your holiday.
Finish everything
Nothing kills the buzz like a deadline
looming over you once you’re home.
Clear your schedule and get all your
work and errands done beforehand.
Procrastination is not your friend.
Limit technology
Don’t stay glued to your phones or
laptops. This tip is the most important yet
the hardest to achieve. Turn off your noti-
fications. You don’t need to stay up-to-date
on your friend’s cat pictures. Ignore that
screen and enjoy the beauty around you.
Be prepared
It’s better to have a rough guide on what
you want to achieve from this trip. Bring
a language book if necessary or stock up
on travel brochures.
Don’t over-schedule
Trying to fit everything into one trip is not
the way to unwind. Pick a few things to
do and stagger themwell. Youmight actu-
ally need to schedule some time for you
to sit by the pool and read a magazine.
We’re pretty sure your vacation spot will
still be there next time, so you don’t have
to do everything in one trip.
Exercise
The last place you want to visit while on
vacation is the hotel gym. But, some form
of exercise will help alleviate the stress.
So go for a short walk around the hotel,
do a few jumping jacks or swim. Get the
blood pumping!
Pack light
Lugging around a suitcase full of clothes
is not the best way to kick-start a relaxing
holiday. No one needs five pairs of shoes
on vacation. Plan out your activities and
pack specifically for each situation.
Travel companions
If you’re travelling with a group, make
sure thety are a bunch of like-minded
individuals. There is nothing more stress-
ful than the clashing of personalities on a
holiday. Find people who are of the same
pace as you, be it an an energiser bunny
or a turtle.
Sleep in
You’re on vacation, sleep is allowed. So
turn off the alarms. Awaken from your
serene slumber at your own time.
Buffer your vacation
Make sure you have at least 24 hours
between your return home to rolling into
work. The transition from play to work
can be tough so try and ease yourself
back into it.
