Magnif ique Macau
T
he
best part about going
on a holiday is you never
know what to expect.
Regardless of how well-
planned everything is and
the amount of effort put
into the itinerary, there
will still be beautiful surprises along the
way that make you decide to go with the
flow. Macau is the type of holiday destina-
tion that does that to you. You might see
Macau as nothing more than just one of
China’s special administrative regions
where people go to gamble. Surprisingly,
it has more to offer with her wonderful
past and spectacular architecture.
Fabulously Luxurious
The hotels in Macau are huge, with
casino and luxury brand boutiques on
the lower floors and luxurious room
upstairs. Sands Cotai Central is actually
three hotels (Sheraton, Holiday Inn and
Conrad Hotel) connected and accessible
via a shared entrance and an overhead
bridge. These hotels cater mostly to
people who gamble and obviously have
a lot of money to spare. With room rates
that go up to HKD 4,550 per night for a
Deluxe Suite at Mandarin Oriental Macau,
it is better to lower your expectations
(accommodation-wise) by checking into
a more reasonably priced room at Royal
Hotel or Presidente Hotel. Unless that is,
you hit the jackpot.
The best part about these hotels is
how they are so extravagant that each of
them has their own unique installations
and elaborate decor elements. At Wynn
Macau, there is a special installation
called Tree of Prosperity which comes up
from the ground every 30 minutes, with a
Hannef Esquander
looks beyond the skyscrapers and neon lights to see what Macau
has to offer.
