Sweet Diwali
Laddu (Or Ladoo)
Laddu
is made of varieties
of flour, grains, pulses,
semolina, regional
or seasonal fruits,
dry fruits, and other
ingredients, cooked
with sugar, then shaped
into bite-size or larger
spheres.
Halwa
Halwa
is typically made with
a flour base or nut base and
often contains semolina.
Halwa
can be made with carrots,
pistachios or almonds. It may
also be based on various other
ingredients, including sunflower
seeds, nut varieties, beans, lentils,
and vegetables such as carrots,
pumpkins, yams and squashes.
Jalebi
Another
deep-fried delight,
Jalebi
is fried
wheat flour which are then twisted into
swirls or pretzel shapes and dipped in
sugar syrup. This dessert’s bright orange
colour comes from food colouring.The
sweets are served warm or cold. They
have a somewhat chewy texture with a
crystallised sugary exterior coating. Citric
acid or lime juice is sometimes added to
the syrup, as well as rose water.

is made with thickened
milk, sugar and flavourings like pistachios,
cardamom and saffron and is usually
prepared in thick, semi-soft pieces.
Gulab Jamun
One
of the more popular
desserts,
Gulab Jamun
is made
with fried dough and milk and
are rolled into balls.
The balls are then
soaked in a light sug-
ary syrup flavored
with green carda-
mom and rose water,
kewra
or saffron.
