out the window
of the plane as it came
in for a landing, I was
amazed to see how clear
the view was. Penang was
not shrouded in the haze
that had enveloped Kuala
Lumpur and this immediately lifted my
spirits. Clearing the airport, I jumped in a
taxi and headed to the hotel.
The taxi pulled up to the hotel about 20
minutes later and I was greeted warmly as
I walked in. Once the check in formalities
were taken care of, I was ushered to my
room, which was on the 14th floor. The
14th floor is known as the Club Floor. This
floor features the Club Lounge, which is of-
fered to guests staying at Club Floors. The
lounge pampers guests with a wide array
of exclusive services and facilities, includ-
ing a personalised check-in and check-out
service. The beautifully designed facilities
of the Club Lounge are created to provide
travellers with an elegant and cosy retreat
in which not only to relax and dine, but
also to conduct business appointments or
to catch up with friends. Complimentary
food and drink is served at different points
throughout the day at the lounge.
Sleep tight
The hotel has a total of 250 guests rooms
in different categories, these being the
Deluxe King and Twin rooms, the Club
King and Twin rooms, Suite and three
disabled rooms. I was allocated a Club
King room and was impressed when I
walked in. The room was spacious with
a very comfortable bed. How did I know
this? I kicked my shoes off as soon as I
entered the room and jumped on the bed.
The bathroomwas a good sizewith a great
shower and amenities.
At the helm
I had the opportunity of having a chat
withMr. Nagaswaran, who is the recently
appointed general manager of the hotel.
Naga, as he is known, has many years in
the hospitality industry under his belt and
has been with the hotel for a number of
years. When asked about the challenges
that he has faced, he had this to say, “The
first high risk challenge that I undertook
was the renovation project for the entire
hotel. The key role that I had after the
renovation was to achieve better business
sustainability as well as keeping the sales
levels up and the costs down without
compromising on the standards. This is
a constant challenge that I have to keep
on top of.”
In terms of business challenges, Naga
pays attention to the latest market intelli-
gence updates and is heavily involvedwith
meetings involving the industry players
