Tell us about your company, DarkhorsePhysicalTheatre.
My vision for Darkhorse Physical Theatre is to train
the finest talents in the physical theatre industry while
producing the most exciting and engaging theatrical
performances in Malaysia. My productions will never be
in a conventional ‘black box’ theatre andmy audiencewill
be sharing their stories and being part of the show. I hope
to inspire both audience and artists to take bold steps in
crafting their artistic careers in the future.
Tell us about your next project.
This will be a performance project about love, relation-
ships and intimacy. There will be dancers and actors
placed amongst the audience, testing people’s limits
on intimacy and relationships. It will be performed in a
heritage building in Penang and we will be showering the
audience with flowers and water – literally! Be prepared
to fall in love. Be prepared to love. Be prepared to share
your love. That’s all I can share for now. The rest will be
revealed in early February 2016! Exciting times ahead.
What areyour future ambitions?
I want to continue in arts education and influence
the next generation of performance makers in
Malaysia through Darkhorse Physical Theatre.
I want to introduce a Resident Artists Program
into schools and produce performances,
with students working closely with artists
in Malaysia.
Beinga performance artist is...
The most difficult yet the most satisfying
decision that I havemade. I continue to chal-
lenge assumptions and stereotypes through
my practice and constantly surprise myself
with every decision I make. I have learnt to
better articulate myself, my work and my world
after getting to know the world of performance art
better. I couldn’t be happier!
