shooting
the breeze about his career and life.
T
his
talented singer began his music career 12 years ago. Known
for his quirky hairdo and funky attire, Hiresh Haridas, now known
as Resh, released his debut album titled
Monumental
early 2000.
The album produced hit singles such as
Walk Away, Like This,
Pirivu
and
It’s You That Matters
. Being one of the few English
singing artist back in Malaysia at that time, his album earned him
a whopping seven AIM
(Anugerah Industri Muzik)
nominations.
He took home awards for
Best Male Vocals, Best New English Artiste
and
Best
Engineering for an Album.
Competitive industry
To be able to still be relevant in the competitive music industry, Resh said that
he oversees every aspect of his music production. He has have even directed his
own music videos and takes pride in his attention to detail. “In the past, a fusion
of cultures in my music and physical trademarks in my physical appearance
did set me apart from the others. But now I’ve evolved as has the music.
Change is inevitable.”
Resh has been a familiar act at events and has also
been the opening act for internationally acclaimed
performers such as Alicia Keys, Prodigy, Pussycat
Dolls and Black Eyes Peas.
He has also released a few albums which
include a repackaged album,
Monumental -
The Journey Continues
and an English album
in 2007 titled
Superfine.
Two years later, he
released his full Malay album,
Harapan.
His biggest achievement as a
Malaysian artiste? “Creating a digital
music platform and a network of
musical support to help garner
and promote upcoming talent in
Malaysia. It felt good to be able to
share and give back to the music
industry!”
With that in mind, Resh never
stopped striving for more. In 2010,
he released his first Tamil language
album,
Theendathey,
which gained
him popularity amongst the Indian
community. He was also the first Malaysian to
collaborate with producer, song-writer, singer and
musician Jim Beanz, on his album for the UK and
North America that was released in early 2014.
Being someone who has tested the water
internationally, he believes in finding a unique
differential that sets him apart from the other
talent out there. May it be the sound or the
look, Resh will adapt and change to keep
on moving forwards and upwards.
