island after breakfast and headed into the
woods. Redang Island offers a wide range
of animal diversity. There are numerous
animals and rare plants that cohabit the
islandwhich can only be truly appreciated
by trekking. Since the resort we stayed
had a spa offering relaxing massages, we
decided to give it a try, especially since
I was a bit sore after my trek. I have to
admit, having the traditional massage
there is one of the best things that I did
there. The various packages availablewere
very affordable and really should not be
missed out on.
Dine like a king
Every resort has its own restaurant, serving
up pizza, burgers and local food but we
decided to see what the local restaurants
had to offer. Do not be put off by the
restaurants that are scattered around the
island. They may not look like much but
some of them serve the most authentic
local food on the island. The selection
of food covers the usual Chinese and
Malay favorites with some spicy Thai
food thrown in. The best deals for food
are with the seafood. Fresh, tasty and not
at all expensive. A huge bowl of fish head
curry costs us less than RM10 and was big
enough to feed three people.
This was definitely a trip neither one
of us regretted taking. We both left feel-
ing well rested and rejuvenated. Pulau

is when your eyes get to feast on the most
gorgeous sunrises and sunsets. We saw
the sun peeking out through the clouds
accompanied by the sound of birdsong. It
was pretty amazing. After checking into
our resort, we decided to go for a swim
in the blue, inviting waters. There is no
shortage of accommodation on this island.
The prices range fromcheap to quite pricy.
We opted to stay at a mid-range resort that
was just perfect for our needs.
Snorkelling trips can be arranged for
a very affordable price. If you are lucky,
you may spot baby sharks and turtles
while snorkeling. We paid RM90 for our
snorkeling trip which covered the basic
gear, but if extra equipment is needed
then divers are charged a bit more. Most
parts of the water around the island area
are not deep, but the area around Turtle
Island is deep enough to require fins to
snorkel. The water was clear enough for
us to see quite a lot of the ecosystem. We
were also advised to get out of the water
before nightfall as that is when the water
level rises and the tides are strong, making
it very dangerous to swim.
The next day I decided to explore the
Soft coral that is around the island
