Fun Things To Do In The City
(Without Breaking The Bank)
C
ity
living is not for
the faint of heart .
It is challenging and
sometimes it gets the
best of you. A little bit
of fun is needed when
the accumulating stress
inside of you is ready to explode. That is
why entertainment is key for us modern
day people But is entertainment in Kuala
Lumpur possible on a strict budget? Free
performances, and if you are lucky, free
drinks and meals are available if you
know where to look.
Free Culture
If you are an art fanatic on a tight budget,
there is always free theater, music or
cultural performances available at art
spaces in Kuala Lumpur. Sometimes
all you have to do to get free tickets to
theater performances at klpac or PJ Live
Art is to just register on Facebook or
their official websites. Central Market
usually organises free cultural events
on weekends while MAP@Publika is
well-known for its free art exhibitions
from local and international talents.
Shopping is almost entirely out of the
question on a tight budget. It is still pos-
sible is you knowwhere to shop. There is
always a bazaar or flea market going on
somewhere in the city. These bazaars are
normally organised independently with
participants selling clothes, hand-made
items and crafts at very reasonable prices.
Just look out for the event page of these
bazaars on Facebook. As for flea markets,
the most popular one is at Amcorp Mall,
Petaling Jaya. The weekly flea market
is the place to be for those looking for
collectibles such as coins, currency notes,
pictures and stamps as well as antiques.
Being a multi-racial country, there is
always a special celebration and festival
taking place in Malaysia. Every festival
like Hari Raya and Hari Gawai are cel-
ebrated differently. Tourism Malaysia
and Kuala Lumpur City Hall will organise
special events and celebrations in con-
junction with these festivals, where free
food is often served.
Be a tourist
How many times have you visited the
National Museum or The National Zoo?
With a minimal spend, you can actually
go and visit tourist attractions like KL
Tower, Central Market, Petaling Street and
Batu Caves. Hiking is a popular pastime
among KLites. It does not mean that you
have to go deep into the forest in order to
experience nature. Broga Hill and Gasing
Hill are two popular hiking trails located
in the city. Go with a group of friends to
have some good, healthy, free fun.
