A taste of Malacca
There is something for everyone
here in terms of food. You may
need a seafood feast to banish
those hunger pangs that have
been nagging at you. The Seafarer
Restaurant in Tanjung Kling is
the place to be. With selections
of fresh seafood and an even
fresher sea breeze gently stroking
your face while you are sitting by
the beach enjoying your meal, it
is not hard to see why Seafarer
Restaurant is very popular among
the locals and tourists. Two of
the most highly recommended
dishes here are the
Nyonya-style
Steamed Fish
and
Chilli Crab
.
Both dishes are cooked with a
special seasoning to tantalise your
taste buds. The food prices are
very reasonable and the bartender
at the restaurant’s Baba Beach Bar
makes ‘killer’ cocktails, but in a
good way.
The city might be a few
centuries old, but in my book,
each visit to Malacca is always
special and I will keep going back
for more.
Did You Know…?
Malacca is the third smallest state
in Malaysia which is located about
150 miles north of Singapore.
Malacca history is quite a lot older
than the other Malaysian cities.
Her story is a long one of invasion
and destruction. It was first
captured by the Portuguese
in 1511 by General Alfonso de
Albuquerque who sailed fromGoa
to Malacca.
There is quite a diverse society
with Malays, Chinese, Indians,
and small communities of Kristan,
who have partial Portuguese
ancestry. There is also a
community of Eurasians with
Dutch ancestry.
The city has heritage sites
belonging to every religion.
The most famous means of
transportation here are the bicycle
rickshaws which are decorated
with lots of flowers and painted
several colors.
