4. Be engaged in the conversation.
Make sure you come across as
sincere and not as a show off.
Laugh a little at their jokes and you
can crack your own too. Create a
conversation around the topic that
excites them instead of making
yourself the centre of the conversa-
tion.
5. Depending on their culture, try not
to get too touchy-feely with your
partner in front of them. If you are
spending the night, be prepared to
sleep in a separate room.
6. And finally, send a thank you note
after the first meeting. An email or a
simple post it on their fridge will do
too.
Things have been great and everything seems to be following a perfect pattern in
your relationship. You both love each other so much and cannot stop gushing about
one another. It’s been months and “the future” seems to appear frequently in your
conversations. What’s next for you and your partner? The dreadedwords: “I want you
tomeet my parents.”
Meet The Parents
Is it such a scary
thought that you
feel the need to run
for cover? It does
not have to be that
bad. Get yourself
prepared with a few
simple steps and it
may well become
a most treasured
experience. Read
on for some do and
dont’s of meeting the
parents.
1. Make a great first impression. Just
like a job interview, be on time.
Grab something on your way there,
perhaps some cakes, fruits, flowers
or a bottle of wine.
2. Dress appropriately. You do not have
to look all Scott Disick with your
three-piece suit and cane or Duchess
of Cambridge in your hat. Wear
something clean and neat like a polo
shirt, or a blouse with jeans that are
not too tight.
3. Give a firm handshake. It is impor-
tant, especially for men, because
you do not want to come across as
limp and not manly enough for their
daughter. A firm handshake also
have “confidence” written all over it.
