Whatwouldyousay isyourmost
memorabletravel experience?
It has to be my trip to Sydney when I
went skydiving in North Wollongong.
Howdoyouunwindafter a longday/week
atwork?
For week days, listening to music while
driving is a form of relaxation for me. All
other time is fully utilised for productive
activities related to work. On weekends,
enjoying my time with family and kids
is how I unwind. I am getting myself
into some gym routine and during the
workout sessions, I find that it helps me
to release all my stress and I feel “happy”
after each workout session.
What areyourplans for the future?
I hope to provide my kids with the best
education, exposure and character
building that I can. Even if I am lucky
to live till the average life span of 70 for
men, I would have only 32 years left,
and looking back, it wasn’t that long ago
that I was 6 years old. While I am still
alive and kicking, I hope to live my life to
the fullest in four areas – family, career,
health and contribution to the society.
Brought toyouby:
figures from the Silicon Valley to share
their experience with StartupMalaysia,
organising APICTA to recognise
successful local startups, helping to
resolve human resource problems in IT
startups, and providing various resources
for startups to tap on.
Besides, the recently launched second
Digital Malaysia Corporate Accelerator
Programme (DM CAP), which I am part
of, provide key elements to successful
entrepreneurs. This programme
is a timely effort to enhance local
entrepreneurs and get more Malaysians
to get involved in the startup ecosystem.
Having said all of the above, I feel
that, having 1,000 startups is good, but
I think if Malaysia can produce a few
more successful companies like jobstreet.
com and Pulse Group Plc, it would make
a lot of difference. I have seen in China,
how the government put their weight
behind a few firms, for example, UFIDA,
KINGDEE, TENCENT (WeChat +QQ)
and ALIBABA that became successful
within the country (by shielding
competition from FB, SAP and Oracle)
and later on, having the strength and
foundation to compete internationally.
What arethe important characteristics
that anentrepreneur shouldhave?
I have seen a lot of failed entrepreneurs,
they have the guts, endurance,
perseverance, discipline and IQ or
technical skills. However, I think most of
all, they need to be humble, open to ideas
and willing to change.
Darwin said … “It is not the strongest
of the species that survives, nor the most
intelligent that survives. It is the one
that is most adaptable to change. In the
struggle for survival, the fittest win out at
the expense of their rivals because they
succeed in adapting themselves best to
their environment.”
What’snext forWaveletSolutions?
Now that Wavelet has planted seed in a
number of countries, for 2014/2015, we
aim to be the dominant player in our field
in Malaysia, while nurturing our overseas
establishment in the surrounding
region. China has a big market and great
potential. We have a joint venture with
Chinese Academy of Sciences and I hope
by leveraging on the partnership, Wavelet
could also be a strong emerging player in
that market. I hope to build a super star
team as I believe having a strong team is
better than being a superman.

couldbeof assistancetotravellers?
The cloud base ERP system that we have
enable business travellers to be able
to monitor their business operations,
performance at their fingertips, wherever
they are. I believe, they will have peace of
mind and a sense of control despite being
away from their office.
Areyoua frequent traveller?
On average, I used to travel to five to
eight destinations in a month! It was
ridiculous, especially in the last three
years, when I was actively penetrating
the markets in the surrounding countries.
