Old and new
The first place that I went to see was my old neighbourhood. Majidee Park had
changed so much. All the shops that had been there were no longer in existence,
having been replaced by new businesses. The area looked a lot better and cleaner
than the last time I had seen it. My family home, which had been sold many years
before, had been torn down and rebuilt to the new owners specifications. Slightly
sad but time marches on.
Danga Bay was next on my list. I had never dreamed that something like this
would exist in JB, but I was looking at it from a small town boy’s eyes. Danga Bay or
Teluk Danga
is located near
Istana Bukit Serene
, the official residence for the Sultan
of Johor, about 7 km from the city centre. It offers many activities for people of all
ages and there are also many retail and dining options here, from cafes to fine dining
restaurants. Truly a wonderful place to while a few hours away.
Themostmemorable thing about JB for
mewas the neighbourhood I grewup
in. Our neighbours consisted of families
fromall races …Malays, Chinese and
Indians. We children could go to any
of the neighbours’ houseswithout
worrying about whether wewould be
welcomed or not.Thinking back, I really
domiss those times.”
