Guangzhou can be a
boon to startups with
great ideas.
Robotic action FIGURES
Tan Yar Loon, Nicholas Niap and Wei Jun
are the founders ofWanou, a startup that
creates robotic action figures. They are
working on a revolutionary smartphone-
controlled robotic action figure where
users can control the movements of the
action figure or simply download new
choreography from their app store for
the robot.This alsomeans that users can
compose and upload new choreography
routines to share with fellow players.
“It was a great networking session
and also great exposure for us. Our team
actually pitched on the Global Startup
Contest and right after the session, we
were approached by two venture capital-
ists and a few parties who could be our
potential partners.”
Wanou are currently working on de-
veloping their product and aims to join
theBrincAccelerator Programme inHong
Kong to get their products to market as
soon as possible.
Environmental monitor
LOGIKATIONEnvironmental Monitoring System is aimed at
monitoringenvironmental changessuchas temperatureand
humidityvariations, andchannels the results tousers’mobile
devices. For a start, theyare targeting industrial applications
such as data centers and cold chain logistics suppliers.
Lee, founder of LOGKATION, found the programme in
HongKong an eye opener.The audience of the programme
came from almost every continent, including the Middle
East and Canada. He said that those in the food industry
showed strong interest in their solutions, aswell as sensors
manufacturers and investment companies.
He said: “The experience has helped accelerate our
startup.Witnessingthepitchingsessionof ‘SeriesA’ startups
(SeriesA is the first round of funding that a startup receives
fromaventure capital firm) gaveusvaluableexperiences on
what investors are looking for from the startups. We got a
real understandingof howstartups scaledup their solutions
and sales in general.”
