ArtSemble.

Awareness Campaign, whichwill be held
inside themall fromApril 18 toMay 8.

Conservation efforts
Made by schoolchildren across the country as part
of ArtSemble’s Tapir Project, the group had been
working with numerous primary schools and art
centres since 2014 to produce these figurines.
In conjunction with the exhibition, work-
shops on paper clay tapir figurine-making
will also be conducted to raise funds for
the Malaysian Nature Society. These
fund will go towards Malayan Tapir
conservation efforts.
There will be weekend bazaars
sel l ing handmade dol ls, hand-
painted shopping bags, greeting
cards, clay products with DIY kits
and T-shirts, as well as storytelling
sessions for children and the young at
heart. Other workshops include tapir clay
making and origami.
There will also be a life-size mother and
baby tapir sand sculpture on display where
visitors to the shopping gallery can pose
with and take photographs.
The Department of Wildlife and National
Parks (PERHILITAN), Malaysian Nature Soci-
ety and PenangPAC are also participating in
this event to raise awareness on the plight of
tapirs, many of whom are killed on the roads
everyyear.Therewill alsobe an info-graphic display
on what the public can do to prevent the further
extinction of the tapir.
