Monastery Library:
Czech Republic
Admont Abbey is a Benedictine monastery located on
the Enns River in the town of Admont, Austria. The oldest
remainingmonastery in Styria, Admont Abbey contains the
largest monastic library in the world as well as a long-
established scientific collection. It is known for its Baroque
architecture, art and manuscripts. The ceiling is adorned
with frescoes depicting the stages of human knowledge up
until the Divine Revelation.
The Strahov Monastery is a Premonstratensian
abbey founded in 1143 by Bishop Jindřich Zdík,
Bishop John of Prague, and Duke Vladislav II. The
striking library contains over 200,000 volumes, of
which 3,000 of them are original manuscripts. It is
made up of two halls that are linked by a pas-
sageway. One of these halls, theTheological Hall,
contains thousands of editions of the Bible.
