checks into
one of the newest members
of Penang’s hotel scene and
realises why G Hotel Kelawai
has been described as “style
redefined”.
G
Hotel Kelawai is the new sister hotel
to G Hotel Gurney. Located along the
bustling
Jalan Kelawai
, this street is
famous for the diverse attractions
around it, from local eateries to
upscale restaurants and jewellers.
It is also a stone’s throw away from
Gurney Plaza and Gurney Paragon.
Ice Cream Welcome
Your luggage disappears from your sight as soon as
you walk in the hotel. This is just one of the things
that this hotel prides itself on. The luggage is taken off
your hands and is sent to your room after checking in,
the idea behind this being that you should relax and
not have to worry about anything.
The check-in process was handled very profession-
ally and efficiently and I was pleasantly surprised to
learn that I had been upgraded to an Executive Premier
room. The icing on the cake of the check-in process
was the ice cream that was presented in a cup. Just
what was needed on a hot day.
2PM, the lobby lounge, takes its name from the
actual address of the hotel, 2 Persiaran Maktab. This is
a great place for a coffee and cake, a business meeting
or to have a few drinks with friends as the sun goes
down. The lobby area also features 11 vintage pieces
of luggage stacked one on top of the other and this
unique feature has become a very popular feature to
snap a picture off.
Designer Works
With her 208 rooms, this property pam-
pers you with furniture and crockery from
various designers. Each room has Serta mat-
tresses and Herman Miller work chairs. The
mattresses are really extremely comfortable
with great back support and the work chair
is just what is needed for the busy executive
who has to catch up on work.
My room was huge, managing to be
elegant yet casual. This was not an uptight
hotel room. With plenty of natural light, a
