would gladly throw my support to little
brother Cayman GTS (or its cabriolet
twin, Boxster). Despite being deficient
on power compared to the 911s, the mid-
engine layout proved marvelous on the
winding roads, where full power is never
used. It’s just a wonderful, intimate and
fun drive, be it fast or slow.
But in the end, I came to the conclu-
sion that this is not about a car. It is not
about the horsepower, nor the plush
leather interior or the attention to great
engineering or the infectious growl of the
engine. It is not even about your driving
skill or flashing your net worth.
It’s about life and the adventures it
takes you on, the people you meet and
the friends you make along the way.
The 12 hour journey home due to bad
weather involved an airport, a ferry
terminal, a taxi stand and a rental car
counter and certainly seemed surreal.
Much like dream. A dream driven by
Porsche.

Cayman GTS, Cayenne S E- Hybrid,
Cayenne S, Cayenne Diesel, Panamera
S, Panamera S E-Hybrid, Panamera 4,
Macan Turbo and Macan S.
All these vehicles were specially
transported to Langkawi from the
Malaysian mainland and Singapore.
Supporting this drive was Leica, another
German brand renowned for its high
quality precision engineering. After a
familiarisation session with the Leica T
camera each of us were given to use, we
bade farewell to Four Seasons to explore
the island.
Our journey broke the laidback si-
lence of Langkawi and attracted many
curious onlookers. The drive took us to
such places as the lighthouse, Datai Golf
Club, Gunung Raya and Pantai Kok. All
in, we covered about 200 km in various
Porsches - from the Carrera GTS (which I
was reluctant to give up) to the Cayenne
S E-Hybrid - all of which drove like the
dreams they were made to be.
What Car Are You?
Before the drive, we had to answer a
series of questions to determine a car
which most suited our personalities.
Mine happened to be the 911 Targa 4,
which was at my beck and call after the
convoy drive. “Just make sure you are
back for dinner”, they told me; just like
mother did. Armed with a 3.8L boxer
engine with 436hp and 440Nm of torque,
I once again disrupted the local life as I
set off to explore roads not covered by
the earlier drive.
Thanks to the extra weight of the cool
folding hard-top, it did not feel as urgent
as a Carrera GTS but was nevertheless
fun; the all-wheel drive kept the car true
to its course. And I will tell you this -
time really flies when you are having
fun. But is the 911 Targa 4 my dream car
like what the questionnaire decided?
Although many would naturally
gravitate towards the 911s by virtue
of this model being the most known, I
