Is it true there is double standard towards those who are
of mixed parentage in this industry?
Yes and no. I think it is much easier for them because they
stand out more. They look good and sharp, especially
for modeling and commercials. But honestly, I didn’t get
everything that I auditioned for. It all boils down to natural
talent and keeping good rapport with people. If we look at
our industry today, the popular ones are actually pure Malay.
What are you currently working on?
I have my own Hippopo Baby Spa in Empire Gallery, Subang
Jaya and a fat-burning drink for ladies, Sweetcuts Slender
Mix. I am also working on a web series with Sazzy Falak
called MILLF (Mother I Like To Learn From). We show
people how to workout and eat clean. Not to say that we
look great but we are just sharing what we know. Since a
lot of people asked, we just want to share with people and
hopefully this inspires them.
I have seen you hosting live before for an event. You have
this really good chemistry with your audience. Is that
something you picked up with experience or just your
personality?
I love people and enjoy making friends with like-minded
people. I traveled a lot and moved schools often when I was
young. I had no choice but to get used to new environments
and making new friends. I learnt how to break the ice and
get close to people. I just try to be myself and hopefully
whatever mistakes I make people are willing to accept.
Being who I am makes my job easier.
What do you think of our entertainment industry today?
It is very different from before. It is easier now to become
famous and get through to the media. Fans used to send
mails but nowwe can easily be reached via social media. It is
easier for gossip to spread. The industry is very competitive
nowadays, but it is always good seeing local talents like Yuna
and Shila Amzah making it huge overseas.
You travel a lot for work. Any destination that you would
like to visit again?
Tuscany is gorgeous. It is one of many places that I like.
The buildings are beautifully built and the architecture is
mind blowing. Everything is very well maintained. I love
Beijing and Shanghai as well. Milan too but I cannot stand
cold countries.
Tell me a little bit about the charity program that you are
involved in.
I used to be a part of
reach.org
and I followed them to feed
the homeless, which really opened my eyes. I am open to
any charity as long as I have the time for it. I try to inspire
people because we do not live alone in this world. I have
a child now and I want to make a difference. I also have a
group with other celebrities called CLPT (Celepets). Every
year we do charity work, especially during Ramadan.
Any last words to your fans out there?
For friends and fans who have always been there for me,
I love you guys. Let’s hope this industry will grow into
something bigger.
