Wau bulan is an intricately designed
Malaysianmoon-kite that is traditionally
flown bymen in theMalaysian state of
Kelantan. One of Malaysia’s national
symbols, wau bulan got its name from
the crescentmoon-like shape of its
lower section (“bulan”means “moon” in
BahasaMalaysia). Given the right colour,
wau bulan apparently resembles a rising
crescentmoonwhen flown.The size
of wau bulan is bigger than any other
Malaysian traditional kite.They are
normally decoratedwith large, strong-
coloured patterns for themto be visible
when flown high up in the air.
