dishes are normally
made with beef of chicken, but Bijan
has taken it one step further by using
duck. This is a must-have dish,
as the flavours blend beautifully
together.
The duck was soon followed
by
Kambing Berempah Sambal
Dendeng
, which is baked lamb loin
marinated in turmeric, lemongrass,
ginger and various spices. I have
never been a big fan of lamb, but this
is one lamb dish that I could eat over
and over again. The meat was tender
and the flavours an absolute joy.
Ikan Siakap Sos Assam
and
Pucuk Paku Tahi Minyak
were the
last two dishes that were served.
Ikan
Siakap Sos Assam
is a deep fried sea
bass seasoned with a tangy blend of
peanut and tamarind sauce, served with
slices of raw four-angled bean, red onion
and red chili. Though the combination
of ingredients may seem strange, they
all blend beautifully.
Pucuk Paku Tahi Minyak
is wild fern
stir-fried with chilli, caramelised coco-
nut and shrimp. Lovely rich coconut
and the chilli give this dish a delicious
creamy kick.
Sweet Ending
Bijan takes a creative license when it
comes to desserts. Bijan’s owner, Lissa
Yeoh, is responsible for all of the outlets
signature desserts -
Pandan Pudding,
Durian Cheesecake, Homemade Ice
Cream in Local Flavours
and
Chocolate
Durian Cake
are just some of her cre-
ations.
As I was stuffed, I asked to try just
one dessert. The
Chocolate Durian Cake
.
This was a defining moment for me as
I had never been a fan of the King Of
Fruits, the durian. I took a tentative bite
and was blown away. The rich flavour of
the durian went so well with the slight
bitterness of the chocolate. For lovers of
the fruit, this is one that you must have.
