Start asking for new responsibilities
gradually:
Something to consider
is to ask for more responsibilities
first instead of going for a
straight in for a promotion. New
responsibilities may go towards
a new position been created. It
may mean more work but the
promotion is almost guaranteed
as the position was created by
you.
Make it about the company:
Do not
ask for a promotion and make
it all about you. The company
needs to know that they are going
to reap the benefits of giving you
that promotion. Talk about what
you would do in the new position
that would benefit the company.
Do not forget that your manager
will have to make decisions that
the company can gain.
There is no right time to ask for that
promotion:
For some people it may
come after 10 years of hard work in

the direction that you want to take
for the future.
Do not ask for too much at once:
Many employees ask for a
promotion, raise and other benefits
all at once. This would frustrate
any manager. Make a list and work
down it to see what is in line with
the promotion that you are going
for.
Do not compare yourself to
co-workers:
You will gain more
ground covering what you have
accomplished and what you
can bring to the future role that
comparing yourself with someone
else. There may have been many
factors why they got promoted
ahead of you. Complaining about
your co-workers also does not
make you look like a good leader.
