Are there any designers that have greatly influenced
your work?
I adore Walter Van Beirendonck and J.W.Anderson.
Having showed a very well-praised collection
in Milan, what do you think of our local fashion
scene? Are we up there yet with the rest of other
international designers?
Our local fashion scene is slow and conservative.
Limited support and a lot of unnecessary limitations
are the main obstacles for independent designers
like us, hence a lot of awesome talents have decided
to leave.
But based on the quality of the young emerging
designers we have at the moment, we are absolutely
up there with the rest of other international design-
ers. Believe me, some of our homegrown designers
are really talented.
Tell us about your recent show in Milan, Picnic In The
Society. What is the collection all about?
“Picnic In The Society” was inspired by our own
design processes. This collection evokes a juxtaposed
image of a picnic taking place in the midst of the
hustlin’ and bustlin’ crowd that symbolises the
fashion industry. The picnic ensemble resembles our
collected and calm team that is drumming to their
own beat. Seemingly unusual to any outsider, we do
not ride the tide while the rest appear to be doing so.
Could you tell me about the process of creating your
designs?
In my belief, a designer’s work should be an extension of
himself. Hence, I always look intomy personal experiences
for inspiration. I will start researching, brainstorming and
designing once I have a strong and relevant story-line
built. We do a lot of collages to get ourselves into the
right frame of mind. Production comes as the last, but
most, important step.
Where are you planning to take your label in the future?
To a level where I can master the balance between com-
mercial and creativity.
