so I ended up having approximately
100 tables duringmy wedding dinner
reception! I would not havewanted it
any other way as I had the closest people
inmy life all in one ballroom; I hadmy
superhero dad towalkme down the aisle,
I married the correctman (I think so thus
far) andwemademany happymemories
together throughout the day; I could not
ask formore!
Tricia Lim(TL):
I had an intimatewedding
reception and it was all that imagined it
to be, with the help of a great wedding
planner and decoration team. It was then
that I truly realisedmy passion and the
importance of a good planner so that I
could enjoy the entire day knowing that it
is all beingwell taken care of.
What do youenjoy about being
weddingplanners?
It is the people youmeet fromall walks
of life. Nothing ismore rewarding than
guiding two individuals through the
inspiring journey of creating their ‘once in
a lifetime’.
Is the jobofweddingplanner as
stressful as it sounds?
It is not all in all stressful. However, be
prepared tomake yourself available
before and after normal working hours.
Learn to love the calls and the unsched-
uled consultations. Some calls will come
in during thewee hours of themorning
and expect immediate answers to tough
questions. It is the passion that keeps us
going and, through experience, we have
learnt and are still learning tomanage the
unexpected expectation.
Have youever hada ‘disaster’?
We have been in “disaster” situations
where the groom forgot his pants, the din-
ner servedwas not as per the confirmed
menu, thewedding cakewas a total
disaster, cupcakes fell apart in the back of
the delivery car, a bride’s dress was torn
and themake up artist did not showup!
Though all these issues were beyond
our control, it was ultimately for us to
address themas thewedding planner.
Through our experience, we learn that no
matter what we do or in anything that we
face, always have a backup solution, a plan
B to ensure things are in order.
What is the current trend in
weddings inMalaysia?
Weddings inMalaysia have evolved.
Couples tend to prefer a non-traditional
style – they are open to bold colors, unique
concepts and new ideas.
What advicewouldyouoffer
someone considering settingup
their ownbusiness?
Stay driven, passionate, committed, dedi-
cated, and keep an openmind. Be ready to
embrace changes and adapt accordingly.
Bewilling to take that step forward and
place extra effort to learn all that you can
about that particular business.With that,
youwill go far in life and all things will be
possible.
If youweren’t aweddingplanner,
whatwouldyoubedoing?
EN:
A housewife!
TL:
Busy climbing the corporate ladder
(which is notmy first choice!).
Meeting the different
demands of thewhole
family is part of the
challenge for the
wedding planners.
