Art Scene
Agreat year ahead
When it comes to the discussion about local art
scene, Das believes that Malaysia has a vibrant
and growing art scenewith a lot of potential.
She believes that appreciation of art and hold-
ing it as an important and valuable component
in life is gravely lacking in our education
system. It is unfortunate that teachers and
parents who come fromthis systemdo not
pass on the appreciation to their students and
children because they themselves are void of it.
“I think it would be a great idea to have
regular school trips to artmuseums, galleries
and art fairs in order for students to experience
art.We also need a better art syllabus and
most importantly, art teachers who inspire
- not repulse - students frombeing creative,”
suggests Das.
2017 is set to be a great year for Das as
Montage Fine Art will start carrying her works
in Kuala Lumpur whileMaya Gallery will con-
tinue to represent her in Singapore. “Although
I havemy art collected outside of Malaysia now
, I wantmy works with themessage it carries
to have a far wider reach internationally in
order forme to domuchmore for conservation
inMalaysia and globally. I ama dreamer so
I would love to havemy own line of limited
editionwearable art, artymerchandises and
publish a book. As for now, I will carry on
enjoying life as an artist andwatchmyself and
my art growand evolve in its natural course,”
says Das ending the interview.

TheNature-loving artist names
modernist architect Antoni Gaudi as
her inspiration. She praised the Spanish
architect for his consistent one-of-a-kind
signature stylewhich she loves. She has a
strong connectionwith his works because
just like her, Gaudi incorporates elements
of Nature and his faith into his works.
“Mother Nature is art in the purest form.
She is so breathtakingly beautiful. She
makesme laugh and cry simultaneously.
She is so full of wisdomand life. Like a
mother, she nurtures and provides not
only the animals but also us human
beings. Her beauty, colours, sounds,
forms,movement, textures, smell, energy
inspiresme in all of my artworks,” says
Das.
Acrylics is the bestmedium for
Das’ style of paintingwhich requires
layers upon layers of lines that need
a lot of patience and precision as all
the lines are unbroken. Her works
aremostly planned as a sketch and
when she is happy enoughwith
the composition, she turns it into a
painting. Due to the tedious process
of creating all the lines and details,
she takes about three to sevenweeks
to complete an average sized art
piece.
