associated
with candy, flowers
and heart shaped
cards, Valentine’s Day
is more than just the
Hallmark greeting of
loving and embracing
your special one. Legends have it that
the day started about when Valentine, a
romantic at heart, was a young bishop
during the Roman Empire ruled by
Emperor Claudius II. By law, Claudius
II ruled that all soldiers had to remain
single and uninvolved in romantic
affairs to ensure that they remain
undistracted during battles.
The hopeless romantic Valentine
saw this as unjust and secretly held
wedding ceremonies to unite young
lovers, defying Claudius II. As a result of
his defiance, Valentine was imprisoned
and passed away on February 14. After
his death, he was named a saint and
the Feast of Saint Valentine takes place
every year on the day of his death,
which is now known as Valentine’s Day.
To commemorate the day, couples
across the world purchase flowers, fill
romantic restaurants and exchange
gifts as a token of affection. So as
love continues to fill the air, make
this Valentine’s Day extra special and
take the routine out of the traditional
candlelight dinners and spice things up
with something new and different for a
Valentine’s to remember. Don’t forget to
take plenty of Instagram-worthy pictures
to remember the special day!
