Traditional Games
Gone
are the days where children sit together tossing
Batu Seremban
in the air.
Replace your sets of Monopoly and Twister with some of the traditional games of
Malaysia such as
Batu Seremban
(five stones),
Gasing
(spinning top) and
Congkak
.
Congkak
is a two person game played by filling the wooden board with marbles or
stones and moving your pieces accordingly. The person who gets all the marbles into
his “home” first is the winner! These are fun and interactive games that bring about
so much joy and excitement while giving you a chance to show off acquired skills.
Traditional wood carvings
Traditionally
made by the
Orang Asli
(aborigines) of Malaysia, they are now
found all across the country, handcrafted
by the locals. These wood carvings make
great souvenirs and can be bought in a
variety of forms. For larger pieces, pick
up wall decoration, headboards, scenes
or even plates. If you’d like something
small, go for traditional scenes depicting
wayang kulit
, home ornaments, whistles,
spoons, forks, serving dishes and the
likes of it. They’re beautiful and would
please the heart of any art lover. Check
out ARCH Collection in Suria KLCC and
Borders at The Gardens Mall for a fine
collection of modern pieces that reflect
the true Malaysian culture.
