into the grand mansion
that was The Kahaani made me
feel as though I was a Disney
princess stepping into a castle.
Formerly an official residence of
the Malacca state governor, this
boutique luxury villa that sits on
0.6ha of land in Taman Tasik Utama oozed luxury
and elegance from its structure to its interior, with
its massive gates, driveway and spacious garden.
The interior at The Kahaani is a blend of Peranakan
and colonial furnishing and lighting, with tasteful and
posh antiques that come from the owner’s very own
private collection. I was amazed by the intricate design
of the sturdy furniture that were specially imported
from Italy. Indeed, you would almost think that you
are in an museum with plenty of art, sculptures and
antiques on display. The red-carpeted spiral staircase
that’s a prominent feature at The Kahaani looks like
something that came out of a movie.
Service always comes with a smile over at The
Kahaani where a personalised butler is available to
you at all times. From the moment of your arrival
at the mansion, you’ll be attended to whenever in
need. Don’t be alarmed by the absence of a mini-bar,
coffee making facilities and ironing board in the
room as these are part of the services offered by the
experienced butlers here. So just kick back, relax and
enjoy your stay.
The Kahaani offers six suites to choose from. Each
suite is named after a traditional musical instrument,
such as the Anklung, Serunai, Rebana and Kenong
suite. The very best that themansion has to offer is the
grand Nafiri suite, which Bollywood star Datuk Shah
Rukh Khan has stayed in, and the Japanese-styled
Tsuzumi suite, which are bigger in size and that comes
with their own living rooms.
Each of the rooms is furnished luxuriously and is
extremely spacious, large enough to accommodate
up to five persons. Aside from the Rebana, each
suite comes with an extra king-sized bed and a hot
tub. Inside, the rooms are equipped with an LED
television, Astro, a DVD player and free high speed
wireless Internet.
Dining at the mansion is a privilege that is only
exclusive to guests staying at The Kahaani. You can
expect quality food served here in generous portions.
While most guests, as I was told, would disappear
after breakfast for a day out in town till late at night,
I decided to spend my day in the mansion to make
full use of themeal services and facilities offered here.
Starting off with breakfast, I had a choice of either
continental or American breakfast sets. Served with
eggs, a basket of bread, juice, cereal, sausages and
more, my day started off just right with the breakfast
that will kept me full and happy. For lunch, I was
served with a spread of Nyonya and Malay dishes
with rice, complete with soup on the side and a salad.
Dinner was a western affair where I had an appetiser,
soup, main course and dessert.
