from Perak, Nice-based sculptor Michel Anthony didn’t
always dream of becoming an artist. Coming from a family with a
humble background, Michel started off by harvesting rubber in the
Hevea fields of Malaysia from the age of eight. But from a young age,
Michel always knew that he was destined for greater things in life.
He worked a string of odd jobs before deciding to leave Malaysia
and sail the South Seas with the determination to be able to provide
a better life for his family and himself.
With the intention to sail off to the Mediterranean, Michel found himself in Ceylon
instead, where his past experience with boats in Malaysia led him to becoming a
professional skipper and eventually running a sport-fishing agency. In a fewmore years,
he found himself on the road again, sifting through various countries around the world
before he found himself in Milan, where he worked for Ken Scott, an American artist
who became a fashion designer who revolutionized the Italian fashion in the 1960’s.
Michel met Scott when he was signed on to be the skipper of the designer’s yacht.
Michel was Ken Scott’s first assistant in charge of the colour palette. Hemixed colours
by hand, designed the fabrics that will be used to dress up prestigious women like
Brigitte Bardot, Princess Durusheva and Jackie Kennedy. The fashion world brought
Anthony into a whole new light.
