Langkawi’s duty-free partying, all-day tanning and requisite island hopping may be
staples for sun-starved travellers, but here are a few out of the ordinary suggestions
for your next visit.
Beyond the Sun
Volunteer at an Animal Shel-
ter and Have Lunch at Bon Ton
Resort
The Langkawi Animal Shelter and
Sanctuary Foundation a.k.a. LASSie ac-
cepts and rehabilitates animals in need.
Hundreds of homeless dogs and cats
– many, victims of road accidents – have
benefitted from the organisation’s efforts,
which include an animal clinic that treats
and sterilises strays. Wildlife in need of
medical attention that are brought to the
clinic are also treated and returned to
their habitat.
Travellers from all over the world
have dedicated their stays in Langkawi to
volunteering at LASSie, which fronts Bon
Ton Resort. Several have even adopted the
furry residents and transported them to as
far as France and the UK. The organisation
assists in the adoption requirements and
documentation. The centre also aims to
educate its community about coexisting
peacefully with animals, both wild and
domestic.
