Artistic Inf lation
Forget off-the-shelf collectibles… Now you can express your artistic features and get
your fair share of uniqueness at kapok at NDC.
F
ollowing
the pop-up
event, kapok at NDC,
at the National Design
Centre of Singapore, the
Hong Kong born fashion
and lifestyle brand has
opened its biggest flagship
store, offering artistic individuals and
hipsters a wide range of one-of-a-kind
must-haves.
Keeping true to the kapok experience,
the brand presents a selection of the local
designers and international niche brands,
with the addition of a pop up kiosk from
café kapok. Curating a well-edited selec-
tion of products, the store will carry up to
100 brands in the mix, from fashionable
shoes, bags, watches, accessories and
magazines to home décors.
The featured brands include Beams,
Civissum, Carré Royal, Daniel Wellington,
Ethia Barcelona, Marie Turnor, Mischa,
Mismo, Sandqvist, Saught and Seventy
Eight Percent, with many more to come.
One of our personal favourites is
kapok’s first ever shirt collection that’s
designed by the founder of kapok himself,
Arnault Castel. We’ve managed to catch
him at the recent launch of the kapok
flagship store to ask him about his new
venture.
So kapok now stands amongst various
renowned multi-label stores, how did it
get towhere it is today?
I like to discover new things and the
whole concept started from a small
selection of products, which are different
from the things you can get from the big
malls dominated by retail giants. I find the
existing retail scene a bit too boring, so
it is very important for me not to create
“chain stores” and to make sure that each
of our stores in Asia provide different
experiences to our fans.
First established in 2006, kapok started
as a lifestyle shop offering a selection of
lifestyle products sourced internationally,
with a focus on quality and creativity.
Following the popularity of the first store,
kapok expanded into its second store
– kapok on St Francis Yard focused on
fashion and accessories while the newly
opened kapok on Sun Street represented
lifestyle and culture, with the addition of
a cafe and a gallery space.
With an impressive selection of
international and local brands, kapok
became well-known for introducing
emerging exclusive creators to Hong Kong
audiences and have now expanded to
six stores in Hong Kong, each with their
individual character. In Singapore, we
Arnault Castel , Founder of kapok, enjoys
discovering new things to bring to the store
