Myth:
You lose three quarters
of your body heat through your
head
This
may be true if you had head-to-body
proportions of an infant, but otherwise,
heat escapes from any uncovered area
of your body such as your legs or arms.
Hence, in cold weather, covering one part
is just as important as any other.
Myth:
You only use 10% of your
brain
Research
out of the Indiana University
School of Medicine posits that motivational
speakers in the 1900s were responsible for
propagating this idea to inspire greater
productivity and creativity amongst audi-
ences. The thought that we could have
another 90%of latent potential waiting to
be tapped may be appealing, but it can be
disproved bymeasuring brain activitywith
advance medical imaging. “You just don’t
see big dormant areas,” explains academic
and author Dr. Rachel Vreeman.
Myth:
Sugar causes children to
be hyperactive
A
1995 issue of the Journal of the American
Medical Association analysed that sugar
in children’s diet largely did not affect
their behaviour. One study – which was
analysed together with 11 other studies
in 1996 – even concluded that the sugar
effect is all in theminds of the parents who
reported that their kids were uncontrol-
lable from consumption of sugar when in
fact, the children were given aspartame,
which contained no sugar.
