level of difficulty and design.
The latest addition to the Tanjong
Puteri range of courses, the Straits Course
was also designed by Akira Mamiya and
is constructed along the coastline of the
Straits of Johor. Some of the fairways,
greens and tee boxes have the mangrove
swamp as a backdrop and the course is a
very challenging one where golfers have
to cope with the undulating terrain, rocky
outcrops, mangroves for roughs and
strong prevailing winds from the straits.
Do keep a lookout for the signature Hole
17 on this 6,163-metre 18-hole course that
has been rated the 3rd Most Scenic Golf
Hole in Malaysia 2011/2012 by the Golf
Malaysia Readers’ Poll.
Practice always makes perfect and
the resort comes equipped with a two
tier 52-bay driving range for you to get
that swing right when you’re not out
on the fairway. Professionals might
take on the challenge of completing
all three courses in the same day, but
for those who like to take their time in
conquering the greens, Tanjong Puteria
Golf Resort also offers a full range of club,
sporting and recreational activities and
the Khatulistiwa Spa where golfers can
indulge in a well-deserved massage after
a challenging game.
and waterways, providing closeness to
nature, plus it is not uncommon to see
wildlife on the course, otters included.
Designed by American architect, Mark
Wexler, the Plantation Course has been
recognized by many professional golfers
as the best golfing experience in South
Malaysia. The par 72 course gets its name
from the hundreds of oil palm that fringe
the fairways and fruit trees where durian,
mango, jackfruit, rambutan trees and
coconut palms are preserved. Built on a
natural rolling terrain, the beauty of the
6,454-metre course is its fairways that
are turfed with Zoysia Matrella whilst
Bermuda Tifdwarf is found on the greens.
If you’re up for a spot of night golfing,
then you’ll be glad to know that the
fully-lit course comes equipped for that.
The 6,414-metre Village Course was
crafted by Japanese architect Akira
Mamiya and as its name suggests, it is
built on an area that borders some local
villages, or
kampungs
as they are known
in Malay. Thirteen out of the eighteen
holes of the Village Course has water
bodies bordering the fairways or greens.
With a blend of scenic hills, valleys
and lakes, the 18-hole course provides
a scenic game that’s considered as a
professional’s challenge course due to its
