Swing into Action
One of South East Asia’s largest golf
complexes, Palm Resort Golf & Country
Club features three 18-hole courses, which
were crafted by world renowned Japanese
architect, Hiromasa Inagawa and have
been voted many times over the years by
prominent golf and lifestyle magazines
for the quality golfing experience it offers.
Hidden away amongst luxuriant golf
greens and verdant tropical landscape, the
golf resort is just a short drive from Johor’s
Senai International Airport. The courses
are endowed with panoramic sweeps of
undulating hills and scenic lakes that
offer varying degree of challenges for
avid golfers.
Designed as a classic “resort course”,
the Allamanda Course is a favourite
for its breathtaking scenery of water
features, daunting sand bunkers and
carefully-manicured Tifdwarf greens
hidden amongst verdant landscaping. The
fairways and roughs are severely undulat-
ing in places and well-guarded, which
can pose challenges towards securing
a victory. It embodies 11 holes of water
and two signature holes represented by
Hole 2 and Hole 15, and total yardage
from the championship tees measures at
6,866 yards.
The championship course is the Cem-
paka Course, which would demand the
player’s full concentration. Measuring
7,156 yards from the pro tees, this course
is one that requires skills in execution
and assessment. More intimidating is
the number of severe doglegs, narrow
fairways, nine holes of water and more
than 60 sand bunkers together with the
winding Serangoon fairways that would
daunt any seasoned golfer. The wide
expanse of undulating Bermuda greens,
however, would provide an advantage to
experienced green readers.
Amore open course, the Melati Course
is carpeted with expansive Tifdwarf
greens complimented by neat Serangoon
fairways. It plays as a links course with
a “first tee only” start and is the longest
of the three courses at 7,205 yards from
the black tees. Expect the challenge to
be a drawn-out affair with the 35 sand
bunkers and six holes of water to conquer.

holes with added character. These can be
easily spotted from the 10 elevated tees
strategically placed around the course.
The course has been noted as being
extremely challenging thanks to the
country’s largest known single stretch of
sand defending the par 3 Hole 2, while
the country’s longest Hole 15 measures
a relentless 684 yards from the back tees.
Yet another obstacle is the island green
surrounded by water at Hole 16, which
will definitively test the precision of even
the most adept of players.
Whichever golf courses I visited in
Johor, be it a nine-hole course or a 54-
hole, the sure fact is that each one of
them have been designed to perfectly
blend the game with the natural beauty
of the environment, making it a treasure
trove awaiting golfers from around the
world. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a
sophisticated golfer or a beginner – there’s
definitely a course that will fit your golfing
ideals and will have you coming back
for more.
