Bobbi Answers Brides Most-Asked Beauty Questions
HowdoIknowwhatbeautylookisright for
me– feminine, romantic, sophisticated?
It depends on each bride since makeup
should be used to enhance a woman’s
favourite features. I believe that your
makeup on your wedding day should be
tailored to your personal style and skin
tone. To help you find the perfect shades
and wedding day look, I recommend
scheduling a consultation with a makeup
artist prior to your wedding day.
We offer a special Bridal Makeup
Lessons at Bobbi Brown counters where
our professional artist will design a tailor-
made wedding day look, share tips for
long-lasting makeup, and show you how
to recreate the look on your special day.

wedding. Do you have any tips?
If you are already a seasoned makeup
artist – or simply a self-taught beauty
pro – just allow yourself enough time
before the wedding (at least three hours)
to complete your look. If you’re new to
makeup, visit a makeup artist at your
local department store; they should be
able to show you what products and tools
you’ll need for the big day. Just as you
would with a professional, do a makeup
trial on yourself and have a friend snap
some photos in various lighting. Practice
makes perfect and seeing the final prod-
uct in pictures will ensure you get it right
when it counts.
What if I want something bolder, like a
red lip?
Yes, as long as it works with your style.
Remember, your wedding day isn’t the
time to try something that you don’t nor-
mally wear. If you love bold colours and
want a big-statement lip, look for blue-red
and orange-red shades of lipstick – these
are the strongest reds. For a more subtle
take on red, blot the lipstick onto your
lips or try a sheer red lipstick or gloss.
How can I make sure I look great in the
wedding photos?
Make sure your foundation is the exact
colour of your face (and body if you’re
wearing a strapless dress). Dust bronzer
on your face and neck to warm up and
even out your skin tone. Layer two shades
of blush – a neutral shade and brighter
“pop” shade for a longer-lasting flush.
Choose a brighter shade of lipstick than
what you normally wear. Finally, smile
and have fun.
How can I get my makeup to last from
ceremony to reception?
Pick long-wearing formulas that don’t
crease, fade or run; look for key phrases
like “long-lasting”, “all-day”, “12-hour
wear” and anything water-resistant or
waterproof. Next, prep the skin for stay-
ing power, which means leaving facial
oils, rich eye cream and slippery serums
on the shelf. A simple, fast-absorbing
moisturiser is all you need. Set concealer
and foundation with sheer loose powder
so it stays put and fends off shine. Finally,
be sure to layer your blushes and eye
shadows; by building colour, you’ll get a
more blended look that lasts.
What are the most common makeup
mistakes brides make on their wedding
day?
Most brides make one of two mistakes:
too much makeup or too little. The first
turns the bride into a total stranger to
her friends, family – and worst of all,
the groom. Too little makeup can leave a
bride looking washed out in photos. How
to strike a balance? Stick with shades that
complement your skin tone. Foundation
should blend invisibly into your skin.
Blush should look like your cheeks
when you’re naturally flushed. On eyes,
it’s all about blending and definition. For
lips, don’t go too subtle or pale – brighter
colours look best in photos. Colour shy?
Try a sheer gloss instead.
