Kuala Lumpur Festival 2014

An exciting annual event, the Kuala
Lumpur Festival started back in 2006
and is held every July to promote the
vibrant capital as a hub for arts and
culture. The festival features a colourful
line-up of activities spanning the gamut of
artistic performances, heritage, traditional
games, languages and writings, tourism,
recreational activities and sports. The
event has unitedMalaysians fromall walks
of life through its spirit of creativity and
solidarity.
Bon Odori Festival 2014 Penang
19 July, Esplanade (Padang Kota Lama),
Penang, Malaysia
Bon Odori, which translates as bon dance,
is a festival that’s held every summer as
a Japanese Buddhist observance that
honours the spirit of ancestors. This
traditional and merry Japanese festival
is celebrated with dance and lively drum
performances to welcome the homecom-
ing of ancestral spirits. The carnival-like
atmosphere at Esplanade is made even
merrier with stalls selling a variety of local
and Japanese food, firework displays,
Japanese souvenirs, lively performances
and games.
Say It Like You Mean It
22 July–24August,The Canteen at China House, Penang, Malaysia
Say It Like You Mean It is an art collective of Penang artists, authors, musicians and
other performers that are active in George Town, Penang. The monthly variety show
at China House features local performers and gives newcomers a chance to perform
at an open mic for an enthusiastic audience. Every month, talented Malaysian and
international artists take the stage to perform everything from the blues, to traditional
fusion, exotic dance, moving spoken word poetry and even comedy.
