The next morning, I awoke to the
sounds of birds chirping in sunny Samui.
To start my day, I ventured into a session
of yoga for the very first time … and
boy was it difficult! As a surfer, I would
thought it would be easy to find my bal-
ance on a yoga mat, but it wasn’t. And the
problem doesn’t stop there. I also found it
hard to keep my cool as I tend to muster a
giggle every time I fail at an attempt to do
a pose. It was an embarrassing experience,
but I did have fun as everyone in the class
was very supportive.
After the workout, breakfast was
served by the beach at The Edge. On top
of the staple buffet line that was set up
in the restaurant, I had a choice to order
from an a la carte menu. I had a hard time
deciding between the Eggs “A l’antigua”
and the waffles, but finally went with the

Tucked away on a private beach in the
Hanuman Bay, one of Samui’s best-kept
secrets, Akaryn is just sevenminutes away
from the Samui International Airport.
Before I even had the chance to savour the
amazing scenery on my way to the resort,
I arrived at the serene and serendipitous
sheltered cove on the north-eastern tip
of the island, enchanted by its beautiful
surroundings.
The beauty was then complimented
by warm smiles from the friendly staff
at Akaryn, who assisted with a speedy
check in while I enjoyed my welcome
drink alongside a creamy dessert. Once
the form was filled and signature was
penned down, Khun Oliver, the manager
on duty led me to my ultra-luxurious Pool
Villa. I stepped through the double doors
into the villa, in awe of just how big my
cribwas…and I will be spending the next
three nights there!
Akaryn Samui’s 100sqm pool villas
are tailor-made for those who require an
extra measure of space, but it’s never too
big for even a solo traveller like myself.
Every villa comes with a private 8m pool
that you can do your daily laps in or
skinny dip with your other half on a late
night rendezvous. For a quick dip in the
bath, the villa is equipped with an indoor
bathtub, shaped in a half egg, which will
cocoon you to comfort.
