eggs and decided to save the latter for the
next day. And I’m glad I did, as my eggs
were poached to perfection.
Breakfast was then followed by a lazy
session on the beach, just lying on the
cosy beach chairs while taking in the
blue. I did go to the bike rental that was
parked right outside the resort as I was
contemplating to go to the fisherman’s
village in Bophut, but decided against
it. The rest of my day was spent in the
resort. I did not want to put my stay in
my amazing crib to waste.
That night, I mademyway to The Oven
in Akaryn to try their much-talked-about
gourmet pizzas, cooked in the island’s
only hand-made, wood-fired, beachfront
pizza oven and feature the crème de la
crème of genuine Italian cheeses and cold
cuts. With over 80 choices to choose from,
deciding on one was not easy. It took me
about 15 minutes to decide on the White
House, which was topped with tomato,
mozzarella, phuket lobster, scallops,
olives, parsley and wine sauce.
The pizzas here are freshly made by
hand with the verve and acrobatic skill
of Venice native, Chef Andrea Brunello,
who built his oven by hand, brick by
brick, on the beachfront at Hanuman Bay.
And when my pizza came, I totally saw
his passion on the luxurious plate. It was
delicately made and the toppings were
perfectly spread on the piece of dough as
every bite was filledwith a burst of flavour
from each topping. I nowunderstand why
it was highly recommended.
With a filled up belly, I made my way
back to the villa for a quiet night in on my
bed, curled up in the 430 thread-count
Egyptian cotton sheets. If you ever won-
dered what it feels like to sleep on clouds,
I bet this would be as close as it gets.
The next day was much more easy-
going as I didn’t want to tire myself before
checking out. I headed to The Edge for the
breakfast I decided on the day before, and
then to the spa for a quick Ayurah Crown
Chakra Massage before I left. Ayurah
Spa in Akaryn also has a spa buffet that
allows you to enjoy as many treatments
as you can in two and a half hours at only
THB3,000++ per person.
As usual, checking out from a wonder-
ful stay is never easy and I had to leave
with a heavy heart, keeping mind that I
shall return to the resort one day. Akaryn
Resort & Spa Samui is definitely the
perfect getaway if you are looking to just
stay in and enjoy doing nothing.
