what I do, every detail must be taken into
account as proper pilot training is the first
step in ensuring the safety of passengers
when they fly with Firefly.
Despite being a lot older than most of
the other staff, I’m glad that age is not
a barrier as we do get along well and I
do learn a lot from them. As times have
changed since I first joined the industry,
everything is much more advanced now
so I have to take time to learn and upgrade
my knowledge. Working with the younger
generations, we go through good experi-
ences together, learn together, plus I get
to upgrade my IT skills! I am definitely
grateful that Firefly has given me the op-
portunity to continue “flying”.
Off The Job
“If I had not continued onmy career in the
airline industry, I would most probably
be a commissioner of oath or a practicing
lawyer. However, I’m glad that I got the
chance to be a part of the industry. It has
helped me grow over the years, and in
turn, I get to help others grow. It’s not
just all work for me as well, as I do enjoy
spending quality time with my family
when I’m off work. I have travelled to
many places such as the United Kingdom,
Australia and Saudi Arabia for Umrah,
however, as age catches up with me, I
find that I prefer spending more time at
home. On weekends, I do
tai chi
, aerobics
and brisk walking to stay healthy. Besides
that, reading is also a hobby of mine.
When I reflect back on my life and career,
there isn’t much I would want to change.
This job has taught me well and despite
my age, I am still continuing to learn and
grow each day.”

Hard Work
“There’s no secret to success – just a lot
of hard work and determination. I always
had the ambition to be a pilot, however,
I could not become one due to my poor
eyesight, so when the chance came to join
the pioneering operations team in MAS, I
jumped at the opportunity and stuck to it
for decades. Evenwhilst I was working for
MAS, I took my Bachelor’s Degree in Law
and Masters in Business Administration
at the same time. Every day after work
ended, I would head straight tomy classes
in the evening. I never allowed myself to
think about how hard it was; I just went
for it till I succeeded.
The reason why I chose to work and
study at the same time was because pilot
training requires all sort of knowledge,
such as legal knowledge to deal with the
training services agreement. Besides that,
pilot training is quite unique as it requires
various regulations knowledge in
order to be able to function
the daily airline opera-
tions.”
On The Job
“My job requires
not just knowledge,
but the right skills as
well, such as people
skills when I’m dealing
with the pilots and with
potential clients, and of
course it takes a lot of effort and
determination when I try to hit my
sales target for the ATR 72-500. It is also
important to be fully committed to what-
ever you do no matter how insignificant
it may seem, and when it comes to doing
